On Saturday 19th July 2025, three of the Old Mill & Millgates Surgery nursing team, Nurse Debbie, Nurse Jo & Phlebotomist Bernie, will be chucking themselves out of an aeroplane (with a parachute) in the hopes of raising lots of money for Keeping Abreast.
Keeping Abreast was established in September 2007 by patients Anna Beckingham and Beverley Birritteri and Breast Reconstruction nurse specialist Ruth Harcourt. They recognised a great need for women, both newly diagnosed with breast cancer and facing the possibility of mastectomy, and also women further down the line who are also considering reconstructive surgery, to be able to meet and talk to other women who have been through similar experiences. This allows women make an informed choice about whether or not to proceed with breast reconstruction.
Our team believes this is a very worthy charity to raise money for as our lovely Nurse Debbie is a breast cancer survivor and has personally benefited from the help and support offered by Keeping Abreast. Additionally, as a team we all have close connections with either family members and/or patients that have had breast cancer, a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
