We provide compassionate hospice care to improve quality of life right to the end

Story

Over the weekend of the 9th & 10th of May, Optima Racing Team and Friends will be setting out to complete a total of 9556km - the distance from our gym ('The Arch') under Kew Bridge, to the city of Tokyo, Japan. In light of the Tokyo Olympics being postponed, we thought we'd help keep the dream alive for Olympian and long time club member Gill Sanders, for whom Tokyo will be her 3rd Olympics!! Members of the team, family and friends, young and old, will be going the extra mile (or should I say kilometre) to walk, swim (in 2X4m garden paddling pools of course!), cycle and run the club to the other side of the world in 48 hours (all while respecting social distancing guidelines).

As a club, we at Optima Racing Team are keen to play our part during these unprecedented and difficult times we all find ourselves living in. We would like to acknowledge the devastating impact that the COVID-19 crisis is having on small charities. Many of whom rely on major proportions of their funding from large charity events (such as the London Marathon) that simply won't go ahead this year.

IMPORTANT! Please take a look and read the stories for both of the individual fundraising pages below as we are fundraising for both Duchenne UK and The Princess Alice Hospice. Both charities are desperately in need and have personal connections to the club. We would kindly ask that you consider splitting your donation between the two. We have set ourselves an initial target to raise £500 for each of the two charities. Thank you for helping us to reach Tokyo!

At Princess Alice Hospice, we provide exceptional end of life care in our hospice and in the community. We know we can’t prevent death, but we do whatever we possibly can to make it the best it possibly can be. But, above all, we believe that hospice care is for living.
