Story
Hello everyone,
In the 2nd half of May I am doing a cycle in memory of Fiona (my late wife).
On May 17th I'll ride away from Glen Rosa Campsite on Arran to head up to the Outer Hebrides and do the Hebridean Way before cycling back to Edinburgh from Ullapool. Visiting the Outer Hebrides and doing the Hebridean Way was something that Fiona and I still had as something we wanted to do. We had even drawn up plans to do it in a camper van as Fiona's condition deteriorated.
The plan is to complete this ride in just under 2 weeks. The distance will be roughly 1100 km.
I am raising money with this cycle for 2 charities. It would be great if both charities can be supported in equal measure. If there is an imbalance I intend to match the difference.
Firstly, St Columba's Hospice where Fiona spent the last days of her life. It is an exceptional facility and the staff there are amazing. We were very grateful for Fiona to be transferred there from the Western General Hospital.
St Columba’s Hospice Care provides palliative and end-of-life care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. We’re an independent charity at the heart of our local community and have been offering free, flexible and person-centred care and support to our patients and their families for over 40 years.
You can find out more about all of our services and the work we’re doing across Edinburgh and the Lothians by visiting our website www.stcolumbashospice.org.uk.
Secondly I am raising funds for Sarcoma UK. Fiona had angiosarcoma which is a rare and aggressive cancer and I hope with more research into this cancer more can be done about it.
I’m supporting Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep our Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care.
Thank you for your support.
