Story
Four years ago, our friend Lee was diagnosed with cancer of an unknown primary. His prognosis was poor, and his life expectancy was uncertain. Thanks to the groundbreaking and compassionate care he received at The Christie, Lee is still with us today — still fighting, still hopeful, and still searching for answers.
The Christie provides world‑leading treatment that goes far beyond what the NHS can fund. Their work is only possible because of charitable donations and the generosity of supporters. On Christmas Eve, after a few drinks and a lot of determination, the lads decided they wanted to give something back. They wanted a challenge worthy of the cause — and they found one.
On 16 May, Rick, Ian, Steve and Graham will take on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise vital funds for The Christie.
Over just 24 hours, they will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) — a total of 3,064 metres of elevation, 23 miles of hiking, and 462 miles of driving between the mountains. It’s a gruelling test for anyone, but as their team name suggests, the lads aren’t exactly in their twenties anymore. Still, they’re determined to reach the foot of Snowdon on Sunday morning, where Lee will be waiting to cheer them on.
This challenge is in honour of Lee’s ongoing fight, but cancer touches every one of us — whether personally, through family, or through friends. The Christie’s care, research and innovation change lives every day, and donations to challenges like this ensure they can continue their extraordinary work long into the future.
If you’re able to support the lads and help The Christie continue saving lives, your donation — big or small — will make a real difference.
