Oxfordshire County Hockey GU14 Squad fundraising for Raising Her Game

Raising money for Raising Her Game

Raising Her Game is a sports charity which works to improve diversity and representation in girls’ sport through our 3-tier structure of outreach, camps and legacy. Our first camp is taking place on October 27th! To reduce barriers to participation all kit, equipment and food is provided at camp.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

"57% of parents of girls said their daughters had felt excluded from sport or physical activity, and 26% said this was because their daughter was told it 'wasn't for girls'."

WOMEN IN SPORT

Raising Her Game's Mission:

Raising Her Game works to improve diversity and representation in women's sport. We do this by offering free sessions in local primary schools and free holiday camps to young girls from underrepresented groups.

We champion accessibility, equality, community and growth. Our camps are run by diverse, fully qualified role models who are passionate about the benefits of sport.

Then, to ensure continued participation, we connect our girls with our carefully picked partner clubs who help them grow and thrive.

Our work with National Governing Bodies also ensures more accessible participation, and better connections from grassroots to elite sporting pathways.

*What is our GU14 County Squad going to do?*

We have organised a Virtual fitness challenge for our Oxfordshire GU14 County Hockey squad, to help them get fit for the forthcoming County season whilst doing great things for girls in sport, in particular our sport - hockey :) We've been so inspired by England International Hockey star, Darcy Bourne, and what she is trying to achieve with Raising Her Game - that we wanted to support the charity whilst getting fit :)

Each player is challenged to try and run 3km each week. This will then be accumulated as a team, with the target of 'running' from our Home hockey pitch at Oxford Hawks to Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre (about 80km away). As the squad is over 20 girls, we should reach that pretty quickly, so we will then 'run' back home. Our next leg will be to 'run' to our first County Match venue and then home again, then our 2nd match venue and home and so on. We'll keep going and see how far we can run together as a team :) The Team's accumulated distances will be plotted on a map, so we can see how far we have traveled virtually (the squad will be running at home in their own time, and logging the distances)

Wish us luck!! Follow the link to Raising Her Game's website, to see all about the amazing things they are doing.
