Story

LCM's Big London Walk is not just a sponsored walk, it is so much more!

It is estimated that 50% of people in London are unlikely to hear the lifesaving message of Jesus in their lifetime. This is because they do not have a Christian friend to share their faith, encourage them to read the bible or invite them to church.

Dear family, friends and friends of friends and family... even if you are a *Fisherman's Friend, you and your Original Extra Strong Minty breath are welcome here! (Please read on!)

If you're hearing from us/me for the first time, my name's Pancho Miller, I serve a ministry in the heart of London called 'The Corner House'. Our dedicated team of staff and local church volunteers coordinate short-term supported housing for men who find themselves with no other option but to sleep rough. Over the course of six months we take positive action to invest deeply to bring hope and new purpose in life with men who are prepared to take a hand up and journey afresh, to leave life on the street behind them.

There are many ways that we can define success. Amongst us there are those who are serving with us and giving their weekend to take on this challenge, to band together in order to raise awareness and funds for this amazing work. There are those who are living with us, or are returning to walk with us again out of sheer appreciation, there are friends and family members, sons and sisters.

So this year is really special. It's a reflection of how far we've come, of the lives and paths that would doubtless not have crossed, ventured through thick and thin. Hearts and eyes that might never have turned to look upon and find worth and hope in that rugged cross. From the uncertainties of reopening a communal close-quarters dwelling off the back of a pandemic to the joys and trials, battles and blessings of the past six months.

A MASSIVE honor to join this dedicated band of brothers and sisters in plodding across 12miles of our great city's streets, cobbles and tarmac on a hot summer's day. (**Please keep us in your prayers, specially that we'd take care if we cross any psyclepaths along the way, London is full of 'em!)

Each of us will feel like it's a battle at different points and knowing this gang as I do now, I know there will no end of encouragement and strength that has built up in the line of serving together.

Over the last months and years, each member of "Holy Company" has shown me the value of camaraderie - mutual trust and friendship among people who spend a lot of time together. I commend each of them for the crucial part they have played in the unfolding story that only makes real sense when we accept and see that God, far from being some cosmic-bully, angry-boss or disappointed-parent figure exists as perfect love - despite suffering and evil we see playing out - amongst all the mess and stress life loads us with - it takes robust, authentic faith to weather the storms (cue Fisherman's friends ad here) and say with MC David 'Even though I WALK through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me...'

This one verse simply sums up much of what we stand on and for.

Please consider partnering with "Holy Company" in raising support toward this project that is a big part of our lives and has become a deep honor to represent.

All funds raised will go towards Pancho Miller's work at The Corner House helping men who are homeless and prison leavers to get back onto their feet - resettled and finding their place in community.

'For we live by faith, not by sight.' 2 Corinthians 5:7

Psalms 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

And finally... A big THANKS A BUCH for any £'s you might contribute for this fundraiser - it's an ambitious target - but why not aim for the sky?!

Please be assured all that we raise will be directed to prayerful considered kingdom work.

To receive fresh encouragement though my newsletter, partner with myself and The Corner House team in prayer or if you would like to support with a regular amount go to: https://www.lcm.org.uk/people-places/pancho-miller/

Don't miss the opportunity to hear more about the work and pray with us!

On Tuesday 8th July 6-8pm I will be interviewed spending time to pray with supporters. I'd love to see you there!

*Open to corporate sponsorship... Fisherman's friends you in?

**It's a terrible joke and a blatant typo. Forgive me... it really is better that way.

We are very grateful for what you feel you can afford and your generosity in sharing this fundraiser with whoever you think might take encouragement from hearing about the work we are about. Over to you!

Almost time for Holy Company to tie those laces tight and roll out.
