Paul & Tom Abseiling the Spinnaker Tower

Raising money for University College London Hospitals Charity UK

The Cure CJD campaign has been set up by a group of individuals, personally affected by the disease, to support the work of researchers & doctors at the MRC Prion Unit at UCL and NHS National Prion Clinic at UCLH. We are a fund within UCLH Charity.

Story

To celebrate a significant milestone (Paul's 70th!), both Paul and Tom will be abseiling down the iconic Spinnaker Tower! Standing tall at 170 metres, this remarkable structure was completed in October 2005. On the 4th of October 2025, coinciding with the tower's 20-year anniversary, this challenge aims to raise awareness and funds for the Cure CJD Campaign.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a devastating condition that currently has no cure. However, every day brings new hope as scientists and doctors work tirelessly to find effective treatments. The funds raised will support the use of an innovative antibody drug developed specifically for patients suffering from CJD. Since its first application at UCLH in October 2018, we have seen promising advancements that inspire optimism for future breakthroughs.

We invite you to join us on this journey towards finding a cure. Your generous support can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by CJD. Together, let’s reach our target of £1,000 and bring hope to many who are counting on us!
