Story

Paws for Progress are taking part in Scotland's Virtual Kiltwalk in April 2021! We are raising essential funds to enable us to run our therapeutic and educational services for young people in both community and prison-based settings.

The young people we support are already facing barriers and experiencing challenges that make it hard for them to progress positively in their futures. These vulnerable young people need our support more than ever to recover from the additional negative impact of the pandemic on their mental health.

The pandemic has also sparked a crisis for dog welfare, with increases in reported behavioural issues and a huge rise in the illegal puppy trade. Dog rescue organisations are bracing themselves for a wave of dog relinquishments following the pandemic. At Paws for Progress, we place equal importance on the outcomes of both people and dogs, and improving dog welfare, both directly through our services and more widely through the educational programmes we offer, is a high priority for us too.

Paws for Progress can help overcome these challenges, as our team are uniquely placed to support people AND dogs to recover from the pandemic and move forwards to a more positive future. And YOU can help by donating to support them through sponsoring our fantastic team of Kiltwalkers!

Due to the limitations of the pandemic our fundraising income has suffered, so the Virtual Kiltwalk provides a wonderful opportunity to raise essential funds. We need your help to meet our goal!

Your donation will be topped up by 50% thanks to the generosity of Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation. These vital donations will be used by Paws for Progress to help fund our essential services over the next year, with a particular focus on working with young people.

Your funds will also enable us to relaunch our rescue dog training programme at HMP & YOI Polmont this summer, following a pause during the restrictions of the pandemic. This project has a profound impact on both young people and rescue dogs, as the young people help the dogs to better futures whilst simultaneously developing their own skills and accessing education.

This feedback from our beneficiaries over the past year offers an insight into what your donation can help us achieve:

“It’s meant such a lot to me, being in contact with Paws throughout this horrible crisis.”

"Being back at Paws is amazing! But the support you've given us over lockdown has been an absolute godsend, helped me so much to cope & keep a positive focus, at a time when other support was limited."

"It's amazing the difference in how I feel after just one morning back at Paws... I know there's lots of people here who'll really benefit from spending time with Paws soon - you never fail to help us!"

Thank you so much for donating if you can or sharing our fundraising page to raise awareness! We are so grateful for your support and look forward to updating you on Team Paws’ progress.

Thank you and very best wishes, from all of us at Paws for Progress 🐾
