Story
Me and my mum will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2027 for Place2be. Many of you know that my mum is well practiced in running marathons and half marathons, but this will be my first half marathon, and I’m really excited we get to do it together :)
Place2be fundraisers to provide mental health support for young people in schools. The work they do aims to provide early prevention and support for young people facing mental health struggles. This is crucial to ensuring young people get the help they deserve, as the NHS services (CAMHS) face an enormous amount of pressure due to underfunding, leaving millions of young people struggling with no access to support.
This charity particularly means a lot to us, as I have faced my own struggles with mental health throughout my teenage years, and know first hand how challenging it can be to access support. The stark reality of mental health services in the UK at the moment is that many young people are being left to reach a point of crisis without the care they desperately need. Charities such as Place2be play a pivotal role in preventing young people from reaching the point of crisis in the first place, which should always be the goal, not the point at which support is first offered. Offering support in schools is immediate and easy for young people to access, no matter the problems they may be facing. Nobody should have to suffer alone, and I hope that in raising money for Place2be we can at least make a small step to ensuring teenagers don’t have to.
Thank you so much in advance for donating whatever you can, it really will make a massive difference to young people’s lives, and means so so much to us. Running a half marathon is a huge challenge, and running is something which has really helped both me and my mum with our own mental health, and this therefore means all the more that we get to do this whilst raising money for Place2be.
And to anyone reading this who is struggling at the moment, hang on in there, it will get better, I promise :)
