Story
We’re a group of University of Bath students raising money for Breast Cancer Now as part of our community project.
On Friday 23rd October, we’re teaming up with Pipp & Co for a special doughnut launch. Every donation goes straight to Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s research and support charity for people affected by breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it’s the perfect time to help. Whether you grab a doughnut or just scan the QR code, every pound counts.
Thank you for supporting us!
Know your normal: Touch, Look, Check
1 in 7 women in the UK will get breast cancer in their lifetime, but when it’s found early, treatment is much more likely to be successful. Breast Cancer Now’s simple guide is TLC: touch your breasts or chest to feel for anything new or unusual, look for changes, and check anything new or unusual with a GP. Remember to check your whole breast area, including up to your collarbone and armpits.
What to look out for:
A lump or swelling in the breast, upper chest or armpit
Changes to the size or shape of your breast
Skin changes such as puckering or dimpling
A change in colour, where the breast may look darker, red or inflamed
Nipple changes, such as unusual discharge, a nipple turning inwards, a rash or crusting
Breast Cancer Awareness – Do You Know The Signs And Symptoms
Most breast changes, including lumps, are not cancer, and men can get breast cancer too. But if you notice something, don’t wait. Book a GP appointment.
How Breast Cancer Now helps
Every 10 minutes, someone in the UK is told they have breast cancer. Breast Cancer Now funds research across the UK and Ireland. It’s currently backing 80 research projects worth over £27 million, working on secondary breast cancer, better treatments, prevention, early diagnosis and quality of life.
If you’re worried about a symptom or affected by breast cancer, you can speak to their specialist nurses on the free helpline: 0808 800 6000. They offer support online, by phone and face to face, from a 20-minute call with a nurse to courses with others who understand what you’re going through
Their goal is that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and be supported to live well. Your donation helps make that happen.
