Raising money for Save the Children

Campaign by Save the Children (RCN England and Wales (213890) Scotland (SC039570))
The Horn of Africa is on the frontline of the climate crisis. This region used to experience one severe drought every ten years. Now more than 17 million children are being hit by drought. All donations will go to our Emergency Fund.

Story

We have set ourselves a challenge of running around the coastline of Praslin. This is an extremely hilly 40k route that should prove to be a gruelling run. We have chosen to raise money for Save the Children East Africa.

The Horn of Africa is on the frontline of the climate crisis. This region used to experience one severe drought every ten years. But now children born in 2011 or earlier are already facing their third drought. Most families in the hardest hit areas rely on farming for their income. And without rain, the things they need to get by - crops, cows and goats - are dying off, leaving children vulnerable, with many battling malnutrition and other life-threatening diseases.

The impact of the current drought: - In Ethiopia, 2 million children are currently affected by the drought. - In Somalia, over 900,000 children under five will be malnourished in 2019. - In Kenya, over 750,000 children cannot get the nutritious food they need to stay healthy.
