Story
Most parents with Rett bring a healthy baby home from the hospital. But by the time they reach their second birthday, toddlers with Rett are beginning to deteriorate in front of their parents' eyes; a regression which can last their whole childhood, leaving them with severe disabilities and medical complexities for life.
But there is hope. Whilst there are currently no approved treatments for Rett, either to relieve symptoms or to stop the progression of the disease, clinical trials of gene therapies aiming to address the underlying cause of the disorder are already underway, part in thanks to the efforts of Reverse Rett.
There is much work to do to bring these potentially disease-modifying treatments into the homes and lives of children and adults living with Rett Syndrome today.
Our team of eleven is made up of the families and friends and friends of friends of people with Rett Syndrome. All of us are committed to helping bring about change for everyone affected by this debilitating disease. Our 3-day trek will take us around some of the most challenging terrain in Iceland, a volcanic adventure which will require months of training and commitment of time, energy and resource which for most of us is in short supply!
Please read our individual stories and help if you can. Thank you.
