Story
For my 60th year challenges I have chosen 2 charities extremely close to my heart, The Swallows have supported me since my diagnosis with Throat Cancer in 2018 and continue to support myself and other people suffering with head and neck cancers. Andy's Man Club have provided me with a place to go to chat with like minded men suffering with various challenges and is now my regular Monday evening.
My challenge will encompass 5 triathlons, Liverpool half marathon, various 10k's with my major event being Lejog(Lands End to John o' Groats) a 998 mile end to end cycle.
The Swallows Charity supports all people affected by head and neck cancers patients, caregivers, friends or relatives. The patient is the focus for support, help and signposting. However the role of caregivers and others is vital too, with their own support needs often overlooked. It is the charities aim for every person affected by head and neck cancer to have access to support at the point they need it, by the method of their choice, on a 24/7 basis. This could be by telephone, email or social media. This is the key growth area for The Swallows and they have expanded their global reach to provide resources, enabling this 24/7 support to be freely available to all people affected by head and neck cancers.
Andy's Man Club facilitates groups where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their issues in a non judgmental environment through shared experiences. Groups run nationwide every Monday 7pm except bank holidays and are completely volunteer-led with no charge to any man.
