A journey of Strength, Spirit and Support
Raising awareness about cancer in serving and former serving Royal Marines
The RMA Riders Branch approaches a significant milestone. In July 2026, we celebrate our 10th anniversary, and to mark the occasion we are organising a commemorative ride around the UK, starting at Merseyside, visiting a number of RMA branches before returning back to Merseyside.
We currently have over 300 members nationwide, with many actively supporting events such as Zeebrugge, we go to PEB to commemorate 47 Cdo RM taking the town on D Day so that a fuel pipeline (PLUTO minor) could be landed., Dartmoor Yomp, CTC Families Weekend, and funeral escorts for Royal Marines who have crossed the bar. For this anniversary year, we want to do something fitting, meaningful, and supportive of the wider RMA family.
A small core group will be completing the full 16-day ride and as it is around UK regional riders will be doing specific to them legs.
All monies raised during the two-week ride will go to the Royal Marines Charity (RMC). Throughout the journey, we will also be raising awareness about cancer among serving and former Royal Marines. As a branch, we have lost too many to this disease, and we know many others across the Corps family have too. This ride is as much about remembrance and recognition as it is about fundraising.
Funds raised — including proceeds from events, our JustGiving page, and a commissioned auction item — will be presented to Phil Gilby of the RMC at CTC during Families Weekend on Saturday 12 September 2026.
We have commissioned an auction item that has been generously arranged by two former serving Paras and good friends of mine, Mick Campbell and John Pettinger DCM. It consists of an engraved wooden ammunition box containing a bottle of gin with a commando dagger through it, plus four whisky tumblers (two engraved with the commando dagger and two with the Globe & Laurel). The box and dagger will also be engraved. Further details will follow. This item will be formally presented to the RMC at a King’s Squad pass-out day at CTC on 27 March.
This ride will also take place during the RMA’s 80th anniversary year, adding further significance to the occasion.
