Story
Welcome to the Robin Smith Team! #TeamRUH
My name is Sam Rye, I’m a Senior Sister on the Robin Smith Ward here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH). At Robin Smith ward we care for patients undergoing elective surgery, specifically those on the Enhanced Recovery Pathway. We aim to get patients up, moving and eating as quickly as possible to improve post-operative recovery, and reduce the amount of time patients have to spend in hospital. There are over 620,000 people in the catchment area who benefit from these services at the RUH.
Myself and my wonderful work colleagues on Robin Smith Ward, including Heathcare assistance, Nurses, Nurse Specialists, and Cleaners, have decided to take part in the virtual My Walk of Life Marathon event and challenge ourselves to walk the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles to be exact!) throughout September to raise funds for The Forever Friends Appeal – the fundraising charity for the hospital.
Each and every day, we spend so much time on our feet walking to various wards and departments at the hospital, and to and from patients. Therefore, we have decided to take on the challenge of walking a marathon by recording the distances we walk in a shift.
We are hoping to raise as much money as possible to transform our patient day room to give our patients the best possible chance of recovery in a positive and therapeutic environment.
Each member of our team is hoping to raise £100! So please help spread the word about what we are doing with your friends, families and colleagues and support us with a donation if you can.
Now more than ever, your support means so much to us.
Thank you! #TeamRobinSmith
