This May, we walk for science, support and solidarity. And we walk to remember the people we’ve lost. Join Breast Cancer Now's Pink Ribbon Walk and change the future of breast cancer. One step at a time.

Story

In April 2025, I discovered a lump in my breast. I had no other symptoms or pain and felt well otherwise. After visiting my GP, I was referred to the breast clinic. Within an hour of being there, my world turned upside down with words I never expected to hear: "I'm sorry, but this looks like cancer." At 43 years old, with no family history of cancer (though it doesn’t have to be hereditary), I was shocked beyond belief.

The weeks that followed were filled with scans, appointments, and plans for surgery to remove my right breast—a mastectomy. Unfortunately, the results meant adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy were necessary too. This wasn’t part of my plan, but I understood why and knew I was in good hands.

Coming to terms with this diagnosis was incredibly difficult. Why me? I thought living a healthy lifestyle would protect me. The anger, grief, and overwhelming emotions were hard to bear—not just the physical impact of cancer but also the emotional toll on me and my family.

This is where Breast Cancer Now has been truly amazing. Their support has been a lifeline during this challenging time. From their helpline that helped explain things when I needed it most, to their website full of factual information and resources; from regular phone calls with someone who’s been through a similar experience to the Moving Forward course—a two-day face-to-face event connecting people after active treatment—this charity has made all the difference.

I know the charity will be there in the future should I have a wobble , or need any support x

Now, alongside my amazing friends , laura &Hannah who have been my walking buddies through it all, we are taking on the Pink Ribbon Walk 2026 at Chatsworth House—a 20-mile challenge! We are raising funds for Breast Cancer Now to support more projects that provide vital care and research aimed at helping more people survive breast cancer.

I am forever grateful for everyone around me—you know who you are—and especially for my husband’s unwavering support and my mum’s countless hospital trips by my side.

Please join us in supporting this incredible cause by donating or cheering us on as we walk on 17 May 2026. Together we can make a difference. Our target is £500 to help fund life-changing support and research.
