Team fundraising for Rockinghorse Children's Charity

Raising money for Rockinghorse Children's Charity

Rockinghorse is a Brighton-based charity which has been supporting children for over 50 years. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies. The charity fundraises for items for every child's treatment, from toys to life-saving equipment.

Story

On 28 August, we will be climbing onto the top of a plane at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent and willingly placing our fate in the hands of gravity, wind, and whatever brave soul is flying us. They call it a “wing walk”, which makes it sound like a gentle stroll in the breeze — when in reality, it is more like being tied to a plane while every sensible part of your brain screams, “Absolutely not!” I, Sarah, may have a slightly questionable love for adrenaline, but my friend Nicki will be venturing so far outside her comfort zone that we may need to send a search party. There is every chance she will turn several shades of green, make noises not yet recorded by science, and dramatically reconsider every decision she has ever made. But despite the fear, the nerves, and the very real possibility of windblown facial expressions, we are doing this for a charity we truly believe in and for the brilliant work they do. So, we are taking a deep breath, strapping in, and preparing to take to the skies — hopefully with our courage intact and our brave faces still attached!

We are fundraising for Rockinghorse Children's Charity, a Brighton based charity which supports sick and disabled children across Sussex.

They support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alex Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.

Since 1967 they have supported nearly a million children with lifesaving medical equipment, support for families, environments and spaces for children and additional staff.

Please dig deep into your pockets — not just the polite surface-level rummage, but the full “I found a receipt from 2019” kind of search — because every single penny you donate will go straight to the charity.

We are even personally paying extra for GoPro footage, which may capture either two brave women conquering the skies… or Nicki making noises normally only heard in horror films. Whether we actually share that footage with you remains to be seen — let’s just say we may need to review it for dignity, swearing, and facial expressions first!

Thank you from both of us for your support. We’ll see you on the other side… hopefully upright, still smiling, and not being peeled off the plane by a concerned member of staff!
