Siblings Stride for Slide Away

Raising money for Slide Away

Since 2004, Slide Away has been supporting children and young people from across Kent and Medway who have experienced the death of someone they love. Your donation will help us to ensure that no child has to face their grief alone.

Story

Welcome to Siblings Stride for Slide Away

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page!

On 26th April 2026, we (Issy and Angus) will both be tackling the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon, fundraising for Slide Away, a brilliant charity focused on helping Kent's bereaved young people get back on their feet. We would be very grateful for any donations you can give to this fantastic cause.

Please follow our team Instagram (@ss4s2026) for updates on our training and fundraising and to hear more about the great work Slide Away does.

More about Slide Away

In the UK, a child is bereaved of a parent every 22 minutes. That's 23,600 children each year facing one of life's most difficult challenges. In Kent alone, many hundreds of children are trying to navigate the complex emotions of grief without adequate support.

Since 2004, Slide Away has been supporting young people from across Kent who have experienced the death of someone they love. Slide Away provides a safe place for them to meet with others who have been bereaved and gives them ideas to help them cope with their thoughts and feelings, hold onto their memories and manage on difficult days.

Why we are running

Our inspiration for this challenge starts with our mum, Lucy. As a Trustee for Slide Away, she sees firsthand the vital work the charity does to help children navigate the difficult period of losing a loved one, an experience she went through herself, losing her own mother at a young age.

In recent years we've been inspired by both the stories she's shared about the impact of Slide Away's work and the voluntary effort she's put into helping the charity run. We wanted to play our part in supporting Slide Away and when places for the London marathon came up, we eagerly signed up.

As a brother and sister team, we will be relying on each other's support to get us through the training. We first got into running doing laps of the village we grew up in in Kent, so this seems like the perfect challenge for us to take on together.

Whilst it's the first time running the London marathon for both of us, the challenge it represents is different. This is Angus' fourth marathon, and he will be pushing his body to new limits, aiming to break the 3hr barrier and get a 'good for age' time. He completed a full Ironman triathlon in August 2025 but wanted to keep his fundraising powder dry for this effort. For Issy, this will be her first marathon. Historically a casual runner, she is bouncing back from a torn hip flexor and is excited to level up her training for such a good cause.

How you can help

We are aiming to raise at least £5,000, which would cover around 5% of Slide Away's costs for the year. Donations are an important source of income for the charity, and we encourage you to give generously to support their fantastic work.

It costs Slide Away approximately £300 to support each child or young person referred, a cost which includes the training, advice and guidance they provide to their schools, and the support they provide to their family.

- £10 could provide workshop crafting materials and a snowy bear for 1 child

- £25 could fund refreshments for families connecting at a workshop

- £50 could buy special books and photo frames for 5 children at a workshop

- £100 could fund professional development for 3 teachers supporting bereaved children

- £300 could cover the cost of supporting 1 child, their family and their school through the child’s grief journey

Thank you

Thank you so much for reading about our fundraising effort and supporting Slide Away, it means a lot to us and everyone involved in the charity's work.

See you on the finish line,

Issy and Angus
