We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

We decided to do the Three Peaks Challenge in June 2022 to raise money for Cancer Research. It's a charity close to all of our hearts for a number of reasons.

Our team is made up of a variety of individuals and we will be training together in preparation for this challenge . We will take on Ben Nevis (1,345m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Mount Snowden (1,085m) aiming to achieve all this in 24 hours or less. Its approximately 26 miles in total and a combined climb of 3.050m.

We all work so getting the whole team together isn't always easy !

16th Jan - Our maiden training walk consisted of a meet and greet at Avon Dassett Country Park in Warwickshire

1st Mar - A rainy hilly dark walk in Brill

9th April - Peaky's in the Peak district - an early start but a great walk

16th April - Some of the team tested Snowden

30th April - Back to our local at Avon Dassett

7th May - Malvern in the sunshine

15th May - Some of the team back in Snowden

22nd May - Sunday walk back in Avon Dassett

Alongside training everyone is working hard to promote the page and hit our target.

23rd May - Peaky Quiz and Flapjack Sale generated an amazing £285.50

Thank you to everyone who is supporting us on this journey - Its amazing how kind, generous and supportive everyone has been :)

10th June Up at 4am :) - after cancelled flights and emergency train tickets we arrived in Fort William around 5pm , filled our faces with food and a little pre drink and an early night...

The day of the challenge 11th June Ready to ascend at 5.30am

Ben Nevis - We started our challenge to moody skies and rain like ive never seen, all wrapped up in our waterproofs we started the climb, quickly noticing the amount of groups coming back down. The winds (c70mph) got worse the higher we got and the rain never stopped , we made it around half way before taking the guides decision that it was no longer safe to proceed ... we were gutted but understood as it was starting to feel dangerous

No guided events made it to the summit of Ben Nevis that day, we were a bit gutted but safety first and we needed to follow the advice given. A slow, wet & windy descent with a ton of other people back to the van and a bacon roll.

Everything we owned seemed to be wet so whilst driving we tried to drive what we could - even the stuff we took in the trailer for peak 2 got soaked while we were driving :(

Arrive at Scafell Pike - clear conditions to start with and no rain, which was a bonus, but gradually the higher we got the windier it got ..... and we would get a small time of calm and then round the next bit would blast you away. The guide really helped us mentally as there was a 45 min section that was a very steep ascent - he said brains off one foot above the other - this may have been the most silent were were all weekend .

We made it to the summit , in good time & got blown about at the top, took some pictures and needed to get down before the rain was due. When we made it out of the clouds during the descent the views below us were amazing(we didn't get many views over the weekend because of the weather).

Back to the van for coffee & porridge and the long drive to Wales....

2.10am We started our dark ascent up the Pyg Track to Snowdon, we were lucky it was dry, but quite cold compared to some of the rest of our experience, a strenuous climb and being a team payed off as we were all so committed to complete it that we kept each other going and motivated. Snacks were offered, a helping hand, advice, motivation and encouragement (what a team). I think it started to get light 2.5 hours in but again we couldn't see much because of the clouds.

After a final vertical push we made it..... we were so happy & proud! It was bloody freezing up there, so quick pose for photos and we made our way down to our welcome party for Champagne, medals & Certificates !

This wasn't an easy challenge, we have all trained hard physically but this was also a mental challenge, the concentration in the poor weather, and for each of the steps we took up and down was hard..

We are still open for donations - this is all about money to support the cure for Cancer, for which we as a team are all touched by ..1. our mutual friend (which is why we all did this and have become friends now for which we are very lucky to have ) & 2 for all the others going through this terrible disease now, in the past and those we have lost.. I hope our contribution supports a long term solution..

Thank you for all the support .... so far

Love, pork pies & jelly babies from us all
