Story
Team Stramash takes on the Highland Cross… Again!
That’s right…Sarah, David, and James are lacing up the fell shoes, dusting off the bikes, and preparing for this year’s Highland Cross, the legendary 50-mile coast-to-coast challenge across the Scottish Highlands.
That means 20 miles of running (or strategic hobbling) followed by 30 miles of cycling (almost certainly uphill) all to be completed in 5 hours or less… nae pressure!
We’re once again calling ourselves Team Stramash, which feels entirely appropriate. In Scots, a stramash means a bit of a commotion, kerfuffle, or glorious chaos. Which, if previous years are anything to go by, is exactly what this will become somewhere around mile 37.
This year marks a few milestones:
• David returns for his second Crossing, clearly having forgotten how much the first one hurt.
• Sarah finally joins the team for her first Highland Cross after years of gentle persuasion, persistent encouragement, and what can only really be described as sustained psychological pressure from Derek.
• James is also a new entrant to the Highland Cross and he has manfully stepped up to the challenge as a late sub for Derek Peacock following his recent hip surgery!
But beneath the banter sits a truly important cause.
Since 1983, the Highland Cross has raised millions of pounds for Highland-based charities supporting people with disabilities, life-limiting illnesses, and a wide range of local causes. Every penny raised stays in the Highlands and goes directly to helping people who genuinely need it.
We’ve set ourselves a fundraising target of £750 and would be hugely grateful for any support you can give. Every donation large or small helps make a real difference.
So please dig deep, cheer us on, and help turn this year’s Stramash into something genuinely worthwhile.
Thank you for your generosity and wish us luck… especially when it comes time to get back off the bike.
Ooft.
