Raising money for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation

Doddie Cup 500 · 12 February 2022 to 12 March 2022 ·

At 10am on 10th February 2022, over 100 cyclists will leave BT Murrayfield Stadium with the match ball for the Doddie Weir Cup. Their aim will be to get to the Principality Stadium, in Cardiff, in time for the KO of the Wales v Scotland match.

Story

The Strive team have oiled their chains, pumped their tyres and stockpiled a large quantity of bum cream for the next big challenge in our on-going support for Doddie Weir and the foundation he set up to find a cure for MND and to support those affected by it.

My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has made a huge contribution to raising awareness of MND and has provided £6.5m of funding into research in the last 4 years. We hope that a breakthrough in treatment will be just round the corner, in time to help Doddie, and the countless future victims of MND.

In this latest challenge the Strive team will be joining Rob Wainright and 100 other cyclists to cycle 500 miles in 50 hours from Murrayfield to Cardiff to deliver the match ball for the Doddie Cup contested for by Scotland and Wales in their 6 Nations rugby match on the 12th of February. We will be setting off from Murrayfield at 10am on Friday 10th to make it there in time for the game. This will be completed in a relay format though a few of the team may endevour to undertake the full 500 miles themselves!

The team of 5 cyclists hail from Orkney, Stonehaven and as far away as Zimbabwe. The clue as to our wherabouts is in the names: Leon De Jager, Andrew Mitchell, Garry Coltherd, Robert Lindsay and Willie Tulloch. The most important part of the team is the support crew who will have to endure every mile of the journey trailing behind us in a support vehicle driving along at 15mph. These two heroes are Caroline Pacitti and Shona Dyer.

This is a massive challenge that we are all fully committed to. The effort we put in only lasts for a few days, those with MND have to face their own challenge every day of the week and a finish line much too soon ahead of them.

Every minute and penny counts in making a difference. We appreciate any contribution you can make to donate to support our effort and ultimately that of the My Name’s Doddie Foundation.

Thank you.
