Brighton & Sussex Marrow and Anthony Nolan are saving lives right now. But we can't do it without you. Without you, there is no cure.

Story

The coronavirus pandemic means we’re all dealing with anxieties, frustrations and changes, but for blood cancer patients who can’t wait any longer for a stem cell transplant, this time is absolutely critical. As you may have seen from the government guidance, those with compromised immune systems, particularly transplant recipients and blood cancer patients are incredibly high risk. Lifesaving transplants can’t stop because of the current coronavirus pandemic. Without emergency financial support, stem cell donations could never make it to the patients who are counting on them to survive. To fund this emergency response, we need to raise vital extra funds every month that the coronavirus pandemic goes on.

£25 could help fund our Patient Grants for those who are facing financial hardship at this difficult time.

£40 could help pay for additional health checks for our donors to ensure they can safely donate.

£60 could help keep the emergency ‘Handover Hub’ at Heathrow open as a lifesaving link.

Emergency Handover Hub: Our emergency ‘Handover Hub’ at Heathrow Airport is open 24 hours a day. This means international couriers, who can’t go into hospitals due to quarantine rules, can handover stem cells to one of our UK volunteers for the final lifesaving leg.

Increased health-checks for donors: To keep immunocompromised patients safe, we’re paying to carry out increased health checks in relation to the coronavirus for every new donor.

Critical patient grants: Our Patient Grants are under increasing pressure to help support patients going through increasingly difficult times. Not only do we need to provide more support, we need to find new solutions to help patients apply for the grants digitally.

Vital donor search: For every international matching donor that’s found for a UK patient, we’re searching for potential back-up donors here in the UK and paying to prepare cord blood units from our Cord Blood Bank from donated umbilical cords as a viable alternative.

Our teams are working around the clock to keep stem cell donations moving. These are extraordinary times. But right now, there is something just as extraordinary you can do to help by donating to our emergency appeal.

Please donate whatever you can today to our Coronavirus Emergency Appeal to save patients’ lives. Without You, there is No Cure.

Brighton&Sussex Marrow is a part of the network of lifesaving students who work with the blood cancer charity, Anthony Nolan. There are over 50 Marrow groups, with hundreds of student volunteers (like us!) in universities across the country, who are all working towards one thing - saving the lives of people with blood cancer.
Every 14 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer. For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival. At Anthony Nolan, we match incredible people willing to donate their stem cells, to people with blood cancer who are in desperate need of a lifesaving transplant.
Marrow now recruit one in four people who go on to donate stem cells, which means hundreds of lives are potentially saved by Marrow's incredible work.It costs £40 to add each potential lifesaver to the stem cell register.Every penny and every pound that Brighton&Sussex Marrow raises will help to continue saving the lives of people with blood cancer.
