This summer I will be attempting to swim the Straits of Gibraltar, together with two friends from Gibraltar’s Blue Fin Open Water Swimming Club, Jerry Clinton and Nichola Favaro.

The 16km swim will see us swim from Europe to Africa across one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, in water up to 900m deep and across strong currents flowing into the Med from the Atlantic.

I'll be swimming to raise funds for two amazing Charities - Ovarian Cancer Action and Cancer Relief Gibraltar, and in memory of my sister Zoe who succumbed to Ovarian Cancer 5 years ago this summer.

I've been swimming for 25+ years, but only took up open water swimming regularly 3 years ago. This is a swim that I would not even have dreamed about being able to undertake only a short time ago, and it's taken a lot training and dedication to get to a point where it's even feasible challenge to contemplate. It’s a massive swim, the longest I have ever undertaken, and one I hope I will be able to complete!

The swim will take place between 23 August and 3 September, weather dependent.
