Story
We (Tegan + Aalijah) have made the bold (possibly foolish) decision to participate in this years Jurassic Coast Challenge to raise money for a charity that means so much to us - Young Lives Vs Cancer!
YLVC gave us so so much support when Tegan was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma on 2021 and went through chemotherapy. Our YLVC Social Worker was such a ray of sunshine, and always there to support us emotionally and financially - which was indescribably helpful as two young, working adults who still had bills to pay! YLVC do so, much to help children and young people through cancer, which can be the toughest time for young people and their families. Their most recent campaign - Running on Empty - is worth taking a look at :)
So, to give back we have challenged ourselves to take on the Jurassic Coast Challenge! on the 18th May 2024, we will walk the 2nd Quarter Challenge - 34km from CORFE CASTLE to WEYMOUTH! Starting at Corfe Castle, along the Purbeck Ridge down to Lulworth Cove, and on past the iconic Durdle Door (stopping for a picture or two), with some steep ups & downs en route. Then the last leg to Weymouth!
It'll definitely be a challenge for two people who are more comfortable curling up to crochet on the sofa, but we're determined and ready to take this on! If you are able to support us in any way you can we would be incredibly grateful - no donation is too small <3
Some further information about Young Lives Vs Cancer:
When a child is diagnosed with cancer it threatens everything, for them and their family. At a time when they should be busy being children, enjoying their rollercoaster teenage years or finding their feet at uni, life becomes full of fear. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, of overwhelming money worries, mental health stretched to breaking point, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we get that. We are the charity that helps children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.
We know everyone’s different, so we work hard to make sure each family has what they need to get through cancer. It could be a financial grant for a parent struggling to keep their child warm through their treatment or for a young person who can’t afford to get to hospital. Or helping a family stay together at one of our free Homes from Home close to the hospital where their child is having treatment.
And if we think families aren’t being heard by the whole system, we’re not afraid to raise their voices or shout on their behalf. Children and young people with cancer deserve the same opportunities as anyone else. We’ll always have their back, because we’ve been there before.
Powered by the kindness of our supporters, we’ll face it all together.
