Story

Marian Sample and Sarah Stone - walking in memory of Ailsa Davies.

We've been friends since we were 6 years old - that's quite a long time now! Together we've shared life's many ups and downs and have always been there for each other.

The day Marian's Mum, Ailsa, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2012, was definitely one of the "downs". And there were to be quite a few more before she passed away from this very cruel illness in December 2019.

We both remember the talented seamstress who could conjure bridesmaids dresses (and even a wedding dress) for us without a pattern; the delicious chocolate cakes she baked to sustain us through revision and exam time; and the many sleep-overs with accompanying midnight feasts that she turned a deaf ear to! We both saw how Alzheimer's took away those talents, those memories, and so much more.

And that's why we're walking 26 miles together this September to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society (we postponed from last year due to Covid). The Alzheimer's Society is working to find a cure for this dreadful disease, as well as to support those who are living with it. We hope you'll support us and help make a difference.
