Kath Wainwright was Sarah’s Mum and Tom and Ollie’s Granny.

She lived a very active, happy life until her diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in June 2023. Kath was a wonderful Granny and Mum to us and wife to Ken. She was fully involved in family life and she was also a key member of so many community groups in her local area.

This horribly debilitating disease slowly reduced her movement month by month until she was bed bound and on a full time ventilator. This was an incredibly tough time for Kath and the whole family as we helplessly watched the disease slowly take away more of her each day. She did however remain mentally sharp until the end but as such, often said she felt trapped in her own body.

Kath passed away on the 23rd of September 2024 surrounded by her family. We miss her every single day but know she is finally at peace and free of the disease.

MND currently has no cure. Although public knowledge/awareness is improving, the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) still requires as much funding as possible to make strides towards a future with better treatment for MND.

In memory of Kath, to help raise much needed funds for the MNDA , we’ll be putting on our running trainers this Spring. Tom will be running the 2025 Manchester marathon. Ollie and Sarah will be doing their bit too and running the Manchester 10K. All the funds we raise will help to make a difference to the lives of those suffering with MND.

We’ll all do whatever it takes to smash these runs in memory of our wonderful Mum and Granny x
