In memory of Gary Hicks

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

We are raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of Gary Hicks, a passionate maritime historian and the author of Plymouth’s Other Fleet. Gary dedicated much of his life to meticulously researching and documenting the merchant shipping and fishing boat registers of the Port of Plymouth, offering invaluable insights into Plymouth’s maritime history. His work, once available for £20 on CD-ROM, is now being offered as a free digital download in keeping with Gary’s wish to share his knowledge.

Gary passed away in 2020 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, and his family is honouring his legacy by supporting research into this devastating disease. If you would like to contribute, we invite you to make a voluntary donation in lieu of the original purchase price. Your donation will support Pancreatic Cancer UK in its mission to improve early diagnosis and treatment options. Every contribution made in Gary’s memory helps advance the fight against pancreatic cancer, offering hope to those affected.
