Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

A group of us is entering the Chew Valley 10K run this June, in memory of a dear man we tragically lost in September last year, Tom Barter.

Tom had received a shocking diagnosis of incurable Glioblastoma brain cancer just ten months earlier, and of course his life changed unrecognisably from that instant. Despite Tom's brave battle, there was nothing that could be done to stop the aggressive tumour's devastating impact.

One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. Tom was in his mid-50s and had always been fit and healthy.

Tom enjoyed running in the Chew Valley area, which makes this run a very special tribute for us to take part in. Towards the end of his life we told Tom of this plan, and he asked that we fundraise for Brain Tumour Research. Like so many people with this brutal disease, Tom was shocked by how little money is spent on researching brain tumours*. Brain cancer sits under a category called ‘rare cancers’, yet it’s not rare, and Tom wanted us to raise awareness of this injustice as well as raising much needed funds.

We’ve come together as a group of Tom’s old local school mates, friends from art college, family members, friends from the graphic design field he worked in and family friends. Please fund our ‘10K for Tom’ as part of the Chew Valley 10K…help fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.

Many thanks for your donations, however small - it all helps

With all good wishes,

Team 10K For Tom
