Trek for Tanzania

Raising money for Church Mission Society

Church Mission Society began in 1799 with a group of Christians, including William Wilberforce, who said yes to Jesus’ call to follow him to the edges. Today, in that same pioneering spirit, we continue to share Jesus’ love at the edges – working in over 40 countries across the world and in the UK.

Story

Two marathons in two-days!

Will you support us as we walking the length of Zanzibar?

What are you up to this May bank Holiday? On the 24th and 25th of May Dave and his friends are attempting a very long and beautiful stretch of the coastal path of North Devon. And as they walk they’ll be thinking of “walking” with the communities of the Zanzibar archipelago off the Tanzanian coast, where Dave and his family will be going to volunteer, with Church Mission Society, later this year.

Dave and his family are heading out to Zanzibar to help support the church, as it looks to be good news for the minority of Christians on the Islands and to love their communities in practical ways. Many people on the Islands live in poverty or have experienced trauma and lack support. The church can be a restorative presence and a hub for community development, building bridges across religious divides as it goes.

But Dave and his wife, Tricia, will need a vehicle to get around the island to support the communities and projects they will be serving. (Walking won’t always be the best option!) The majority of the roads in Zanzibar are rough roads and so they will need a sturdy vehicle to deal with the terrain. The three-year budget to cover this is £15,000.

Would you consider sponsoring their trek to raise the first £5000 and cover a year's worth? You could sponsor 10p, 50p or even a £1 per km?

The first £3750 is match-funded, so your support is effectively doubled, and if we hit 5K, we will have almost two years' worth of vehicle costs!
