Raising money for Cathedral Archer Project

At the Archer Project, we support adults experiencing homelessness in Sheffield and the wider region. Our Project facilitates a range of services and activities to help individuals progress away from homelessness, to live more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Story

We are a core team of 6 riders (plus our priceless support team) riding from Lands End to John O'Groats over the course of 7 days.

This is a mammoth task averaging at 240km (140 miles) every day - almost 1700km and 16,659m elevation (2 x Everest) over the week, these are not rookie numbers.

The Archer Project provides a structured pathway of services to support people at every stage on their journey away from homelessness, including support with education, mental wellbeing and health care, a route back to work and assistance towards permanent housing. A central cog in Sheffield’s homeless charity network, their vision is that everyone should have somewhere to call home.

Emergency care at their centre includes serving breakfast and lunch each weekday; distributing food parcels; providing clothing, sleeping bags and toiletries; offering showers, laundry, and access to GP and dental services. The Archer Project provides a programme of activities focused on encouraging recovery, building confidence and combating isolation, including art classes, group walks and bike rides, animal therapy, mindfulness, museum visits, and a baking group. They also help establish stability through positive routines and peer mentorship as part of a programme encouraging volunteering at The Project.

The charity has developed a thriving, award-winning social enterprise which provides paid, supported employment opportunities. Health awareness, securing housing and support with home management are incorporated to establish work-life balance. What started as tea and toast served by members of the Cathedral congregation has developed and expanded into a holistic service designed to help people experiencing homelessness to improve their lives.
