Raising money for Parkinson’s UK

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Hi everyone,

As some of you may know, Gareth Evans was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 7 years ago and it’s been a big adjustment for him and his family but he is determined to face this challenge head-on – and what better way than with a head shave and a bit of (probably painful!) waxing?!

On May 4, Gareth and a team of volunteers will be losing their hair and braving the wax strips to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, a charity that provides vital support, research, and hope for those living with this condition.

The shave and wax is part of a full day of fun and fundraising at the Maltster Arms, Whitchurch, from 12.30pm, which will also feature a BBQ, face-painting and a raffle.

Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, and while there’s currently no cure, together we can help fund groundbreaking research and support services that make a real difference.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help bring us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure. If you can spare a few pounds, we would be so grateful. And if you fancy coming along to watch (and maybe even rip off a wax strip or two!), Gareth and the team would love your support!

Thank you so much for being part of this journey with Gareth.

A message from Gareth:

Myself and my wife Louise along with my friends from our local pub The Maltsters Whitchurch Cardiff will be raising money for Parkinson’s UK Cymru on May 4th 2025.

There’s not much left for me to do regarding raising much needed funds for Parkinson’s: we’ve done rugby games, we’ve done marathons, we’ve done weight loss challenges along with quizzes and walks.

But now because of my Parkinson’s progressing and I’m getting older with dodgey knees and arthritis, I realise that I can’t do the athletic challenges any more.

But I can still have a laugh in the way of putting myself forward for sponsorship in going bald by having my bonce shaved off!

Now this is where I ask you guys to help us out. Will you please take up this challenge and get sponsorship for yourself and join me and others with our latest task. You can offer this challenge to your friends and family as long as they raise money for Parkinson’s. If you are interested, please contact me directly for more information and sponsorship forms etc.

The brave may not live forever, the cautious do not live at all.

Thanks in advance
