Story
We are helping to raise money for Tearfund's life saving work around the world, helping people to lift themselves out of poverty. A cause that we as a team are passionate about is the refugee crisis and the work Tearfund does in providing aid.
The city of Barranquilla hosts more than 15,000 Venezuelan families who have taken refuge in temporary accommodation. Most of them depend on being able to go out to work in order to put food on the table, but now they can no longer leave their houses due to an imposed lockdown to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Thankfully, relief agencies such as Tearfund's church partners have delivered food baskets to 600 families with young children.
In Syria, around 5.1M people have fled the country and around 6.3M are internally displaced with 83% of Syrians living below the poverty line. Here, Tearfund's work specialises in providing emergency aid, fighting for human rights and empowering local citizens to ensure wider food security.
The refugee crisis across the world is devastating to so many lives and Tearfund's work in helping to empower those affected is so important.
They will continue to reach out to help the most vulnerable, including the elderly and women and children who are at risk of violence and abuse when confined to their homes.
The full impact of coronavirus on communities in poverty is still unknown.
As a team, we are walking 301 miles over a course of 2 weeks, the distance between Damascus, Syria and Gaziantep, Turkey. This distance is often the beginning of the journey of a Syrian refugee.
By donating money, you will help support Tearfunds life-saving work across the world.
