Story
Hello everyone,
I'm Emma, and I want to share with you the incredible journey I've been on with my brother, Leon. His resilience and strength have inspired me every step of the way.
Leon was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy when he was little. I'll never forget the day our lives changed forever. Watching him lose the ability to walk at such a young age was heartbreaking. And now, daily as he battles heart and lung failure, we are reminded every day of the fragility of life.
But through it all, Leon's spirit remains unbreakable. Despite recently losing full arm function, he continues to face each day with courage and determination. His strength humbles me, and I'm grateful for every moment we share together.
Knowing that a cure for Duchenne may not be possible in Leon's lifetime breaks my heart. But I refuse to let despair consume me. Instead, I've dedicated myself to raising awareness and funds for research, hoping to spare other families the same pain and heartache we've experienced.
Together with incredible individuals we've formed "Team Leon." Some are family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours. It’s not just the physical people who have taken part, but all the supporters who have donated over the years. We've taken on skydives, marathons, fire walks, countless pub quizzes and I trekked Kilimanjaro, all in the name of raising funds for Duchenne research, 58km treks along the Jurassic coast & Peak District & this time it’s London marathon! It's a challenge unlike any other, but we're ready to push ourselves to the limit for Leon and others like him.
Training for this won’t be easy. I hate running & something I’ve never enjoyed! It's required dedication, perseverance, and a whole lot of determination. But knowing that every step we take brings us closer to a cure keeps us going.
If you want to support our cause, please consider donating through the link below. Your contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in the fight against Duchenne.
Thank you
Em
