Why We’re Climbing Ben Nevis

This July, a group of 40+ of us will climb Ben Nevis in memory of two very special men — Tom and Michael.

Both were just 44 years old.

Tom left behind his wife and three children.

Michael left behind three children.

Both left families and friends who miss them every single day.

They were loved. They were needed. They mattered.

We are climbing to honour them.

We are climbing to remember them.

And we are climbing so that fewer families have to experience this kind of heartbreak.

Two of our group, Coxy and Michael, will carry 44kg on their backs to represent each year of Tom and Michael’s lives.

On the way down the mountain, they will complete 44 burpees every 500 metres.

It will be tough.

It will hurt.

But it will never compare to the weight their families carry every single day.

We are raising money for The OLLIE Foundation, a suicide prevention and wellbeing charity on an important mission.

The OLLIE Foundation provides accessible in-person and online awareness sessions, events and resources designed to reduce the number of people who feel like suicide is their only option. They work to give people the confidence to support someone to stay safe for now.

In 2016, three parents who had all lost their teenage sons to suicide, vowed to do all they could to prevent other families suffering similar tragedies.

The OLLIE Foundation (One Life Lost is Enough) is a registered charity funding suicide intervention skills training for adults working with young people.

Since our registration in 2016 we have trained over 20,000 people in suicide prevention.

Your fundraising helps us train even more people, break down the stigma attached to suicide, and increase awareness!

If we start with the young people, maybe, just maybe we can prevent another life lost later on in life
