Treorchy London Marathon Story: October 2nd 2022

As an individual I have been trying to run the London marathon for the last 12 years but have never had any joy. I have completed other marathons and enjoyed them but the iconic London experience has always eluded me.

Then, in 2021, my brother-in-law, Jonathan, got to run London for the fantastic national charity WellChild, which allow very sick children to be cared for at home, something we would all want. I went to London to support Jonathan and met the organisers of Wellchild and saw first-hand their excellent support of their marathon runners.

I decided to ‘get in there’ and pitch for places for Treorchy Comprehensive and we have now got 11 places, with Sion Howells from Bodringallt Primary School also joining the team. We are a mixed bunch of marathon veterans - two of our team already having experienced the London marathon -and others with very little experience. But lots of enthusiasm!

So this is the team:

What we all share is a real commitment to Wellchild and to our Treorchy committee: we are committed to raising £30k for this charity and need to get everyone behind us. We will be fundraising as a group and over the coming months will be sharing more and more of our story with the hope that you will be motivated to donate whatever you can afford to this excellent cause.

So from never running London, I am now running London with the best colleagues and friends ever. This is a real joy. Please support us on our fundraising and training journey: we are determined to meet our target!
