Story
Hi everyone, so we are now able to do the Loros - Leicester to Skegness bike ride 🚴♂️which was cancelled last year due to Covid 19. We are a trio team of myself, Fraser & brother in law Martin and are hopeful to raise as much money as we possibly can. I appreciate that some of you may have donated last year so please do not think that we expect you to give again. However we will happily accept any donations, no matter how small 😊 I know that this has been an extremely difficult year for everyone and charities such as Loros have been really hit hard.
My story below remains but will add that on Friday 4th June we finally completed my dads wishes of having his ashes scattered in the open air. We chose the meadow at Countesthorpe crematorium and thankfully we were all able to be there as a family.
In the summer of 2018 We were given the devastating news that my dad had Pancreatic Cancer and it was stage 4. The prognosis was poor and he was given 3-6 months. We were offered palliative care and received support from both Macmillan and Loros. Throughout dads fight he astounded the medics when against all odds and statistics he survived for 17 months. This survival reflected dads stubbornness to give in and he gave all he could to stay with us. As he became weaker we discussed his wishes which were to remain at home for as long as possible and then he would go into Loros. We were thankful that we were able to achieve dads wishes and on the 6th December 2019 Loros transport was arranged to collect dad from home and settle him at Loros. The care and support from ALL of the staff was absolutely incredible and from the Monday we were given a family room to stay in, and this meant that we were able to stay close to dad 24/7. My wonderful, amazing, special, brave dad gained his Angel wings on Friday 13th December at 2.30pm surrounded by his family. Our lives will never be the same again but we remain truly grateful to have had the best dad ever and he will always be in our hearts. Loros is an amazing place and until you need them you don’t really realise what is required for their very existence! Having experienced first hand their dedication and commitment of care I am hopeful to raise as much as I can from my sponsored bike ride in order to show my families gratitude. I do thank you in advance for reading this, and will appreciate any amount that you are able to sponsor.
