Story
Hi.
Please can I first introduce myself. My name is Mr Carl (Bear) Randell-Eyre and am an ex soldier with 23yrs of service in the REME. Since leaving the Army some nearly 9 years ago, I have kept myself active in the way of cycling for different charities over the recent years, including the London 100 twice and other similar events of that magnitude.
Call me bonkers, but I feel its important to keep up the motivation to help those in need, forces charities and civilian alike. I myself am permanently injured, but count myself extremely lucky to be able to do what I do after seeing so many others come off a lot worse.
I have collated a superb team together to assist me in completing a “traffic free" solo ride around the perimeter track of an airfield in Somerset for 24hrs and try to reach a target of 250 miles. I will start riding at 12pm on Saturday afternoon 3rd July and finish 24hrs later on the 4th. I will be stopping every 4hrs for nutrition and bottle top ups and of course comfort breaks.
I am riding for two charities this year, Kartforce (Charity number 1146454) and Jordie on you (JOY) (Charity Number 1185945).
Kartforce is a disabled armed forces charity that helps rehabilitates servicemen and women of all arms to overcome their injuries, physically and mentally by competing in top level go-karting against able bodied drivers. The kartforce karts have all been adapted so that they can be driven on hand controls only as some of the drivers have no legs and some amazingly, have fingers missing too. They have also started to take on disabled civilians also. They can only achieve their dreams by donations like ours, buying fuel, tyres, race suits etc to give them a dream they thought they’d never have.
Jordie On You is a children’s mental health charity set up by my good friend Matt Maltby, Matt’s young son Jordan tragically took his own life on Christmas Day 2017 and vowed that should never happen again to any other family or child. “JOY” supports kids suffering from bereavement of a friend or family member or suffers from mental health issues by paying for them to go on a holiday home or respite break to give them space and time to overcome their loss or just to regroup.
I am putting every effort to make this event as successful as possible. We still have a few hurdles to get over, but our determination to succeed and raise these much needed funds for those young and disabled people in need.
Thank you for taking time to read this message.
Bear.
