1 in 2 of us are affected by cancer in our lifetimes.

Unfortunately 2021 made that statistic a reality for me personally as Team Captain and for Team Yeovil ED.

As Team Captain - My step dad was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2021 and with surgery not being an option, as a family we faced 7 weeks of daily radiotherapy and once a week chemo to try and get rid. He was fed through a tube for months and went from being in the gym 4-5 times a week to losing over 12% of his body weight and sleeping for hours on end. Despite all of this, I count my blessings that he's still here as I'm writing this and seems to be making a good recovery. My Yeovil ED family treated him on multiple occasions throughout his treatment and gave me the support I needed to stay strong to help him. MacMillan were also on the phone 24/7 with support through these times and therefore hold a special place in my heart.

As Team Yeovil ED - In early 2021, one of beautiful sister's was diagnosed with lung cancer and required immediate life saving surgery in Bristol. Despite facing this and the various trials that came with it she has remained the backbone on Team Yeovil ED, wiping the tears off our faces rather than her own and has fought the C word with every ounce of her being. With the reality of COVID being a huge risk to us working in healthcare, she was itching to return to work and once again be the one helping others despite her health. She has been out the house doing lots of walking at all hours and therefore we though as a team what better way to honour the strong beautiful person she is than to complete a might hike in aid of MacMillan.
