Story
We are taking on the Samaritans Walk 60 miles with Bertie and Chico in April challenge to help prevent suicide through the power of human connection.
Whilst I’m very open about my diagnosis, my treatment and my mental health journey as a whole, my journey on some levels is very much a personal one. There are certain aspects that very few people know about. Things so dark and so deep that I’ve only been able to put them into words a handful of times, and I’ve never been able to say out loud. I don’t think I need or want, or can even bring myself to say much more on the matter to be honest. I feel exposed enough already. Some parts of my journey will always likely remain private because it’s just too painful, and the shame is too much for me to bear.
The Samaritans, whilst not a charity that I have personally used very much (only once or twice in the early days of being unwell), it is a charity that I hold so very very close to my heart.
Suicide prevention is critical. People are tragically dying every single day, far too many of them feeling that there was no one they could turn to. The Samaritans are there though, every moment of every day, 24/7, 365 days a year. They are trained professionals, who will talk to you for as long or as little as you need. They will listen to you, without judgment, in your hour of need, and there is no limit on how many times you can call them.
I urge you if you are struggling, if you feel that your only option is to end your life, then please please please call them on: 116 123
And if you know someone who is struggling, then please please signpost them to the Samaritans. Even ring them for advice yourself.
Let’s prevent suicide today, because tomorrow is too late 💔💚
Thank you 💚
