Story
£100 per mile...
On Sunday 25th April 2027, Revd Iain and Celeste, together with Maria and Andrew, will lace up our boots and set off on the BIG STROLL: 14.5 miles, one step at a time, for our congregation.
For centuries, people have come to the church in Bothwell to pray, to celebrate, to grieve and to give thanks. Its story reaches back to the 6th century, its Quire was dedicated in 1398, and its windows by Burne-Jones, Gordon Webster and Douglas Strachan still fill it with colour and light. It is one of Scotland’s treasures, and yet, unless we change, it is in danger of closing its doors for the final time. Change is nothing new to this building: it has adapted many times throughout its long history, and now it must do so again.
But a building this special should not sit quiet for most of the week. Right now it is used for little more than an hour of worship each Sunday and the occasional concert. We believe it can be so much more.
This is an exciting moment in the life of Bellshill and Bothwell Parish Church. We are beginning the work of changing our church building into a place where God is praised for generations to come, and where the whole community feels welcome: warm, flexible and open, a space people want to come into, whether for worship, a concert, a group, a coffee or simply a quiet moment.
We are proud to be part of this chapter of the church’s story, and we would love you to be part of it too.
Our target is £5,800: that’s £100 for every mile, for each of us. Could you sponsor a mile? Half a mile? Every pound brings us closer to a church that is ready for its next 600 years.
Thank you for walking with us.
