RCN 1062559
We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Welcome to our Just Giving page! Myself, Tommie and Mikey have set ourselves a mission to raise as much money for a wonderful cause, Teenage Cancer Trust. Please read the short passage below about why and what we are doing.

Matt’s story

Having endured a difficult past family history with this horrible disease it was only recently I realised how proud of my brother I am. In July 2013, Matt, after 11 years of good health following the removal of a childhood tumour, was diagnosed with a rare tumour in the pelvis. He was admitted to the Teenage Cancer Trust ward at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge where after a series of exhaustive tests he began a course of chemotherapy. Surgery, further chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and radiotherapy have all followed.

We optimistically thought that after defeating the horrible disease twice, Matthew had seen the back end of this. However, sadly this was not the case. In 2015, Matt relapsed which meant that he had to take a year out of university and go through all the treatment again. Everyone on the TCT ward, realised how hard it was for Matthew and helped him through such a hard time in his life. Sadly, this was not the end either. In 2017 he relapsed again, forcing him to take another year out of university. On returning to Loughborough Matthew achieved a First Class Honours degree in economics – an amazing achievement. This success was short lived as just recently, in September 2019, he relapsed again. He is currently going through the treatment process now for the fifth time in his life and his positivity is helped massively by everyone on the Teenage Cancer Trust ward. Going through what he has done in such a short period of his life has made me immensely proud to call him my brother and it has really made me put things into perspective.

The treatment he has received has been amazing – the unit provides a unique atmosphere and the staff are truly brilliant. Entering the unit is a really humbling experience and without the funding provided by the Teenage Cancer Trust none of it would have been possible.

Now it is my turn to give something back. On July 21st (revised dates), myself and two of my best friends (Mikey and Tommie) are taking on the challenge of climbing the Three Peaks and cycling between them. We have estimated it is going to be 14 hours of climbing and just over 450 miles on the bike. We are aiming to complete this challenge in 5 days, finally finishing at the summit of Mount Snowdon. We are self-funding the challenge and all the money raised will go to the Teenage Cancer trust at Addenbrookes .
