Raising money for St. Michael's Hospice (North Hampshire) and Alzheimer's Society

Story

Hello! Good day to you & an enormous, huge, magnificent thank you for coming along to have a look at my page!

I’m Meg, I’m 24 & I’ve conjured up this totally ridiculous, bonkers plan to raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer’s Society and St Michael’s Hospice.

Why climb a mountain when you can climb three? Why swim in a pool when you can swim 3 lakes? And why travel by car when you have a bike? (As I’m writing this I acknowledge there is an incredibly good answer to each of these questions - so for this reason, they are rhetorical.)

Yes, indeed, I am going to climb the 3 peaks, swim the 3 largest lakes in the UK and cycle between them, all in one go, all for charity. It’s a triathlon on a super-steroid, that I don’t think has ever been done before and I’m equal parts terrified and excited .

In the last few years, my family have become acutely aware of the wonderful work that both these charities do and they both mean an enormous amount to me. I’m really passionate about the work that they do and It will be an honour to represent them during the TriPeaks Challenge.

My Grandad (Pops) was looked after by St Michael’s hospice (a small, local hospice) during his last few months of his battle with Pancreatic cancer - the care he received was unrivalled and as a family, we really could not be more grateful. I know that he would be so proud and would love for me to say a real thank you & this is the best way I can think of to do it.

The following year, my grandma was one of the 209,600 UK people to get diagnosed with dementia. It’s been quite the rollercoaster since (she managed at one point to buy 4 front doors for her house in one afternoon) but one constant, solid, pillar of support has been the Alzheimer’s Society. Their helplines and information resources have helped guide our family through some of the trickier times. Their research to find a cure whilst simultaneously providing such support to those currently living with dementia is simple admirable.

Training for this event is well and truly underway (I need as much help as I can get) … an enormous thanks to Sam @ KOTWF & Justine for their guidance - I simply could not be doing it without them. I have also set up an Instagram page to log my progress (expect many a sweaty selfie and strava uploads), so if you fancy keeping up to date with all the ins and outs - I’d be hugely grateful for your support.

If you’ve read to the end, wow (that’s a big enough feat in itself) - I’m enormously grateful - If you’re able to or would like to support this (totally ridiculous) event, me or the charities, I could not thank you enough. JustGiving won’t let me fundraise for 2 charities on the same event so there’s a team page with both charities on - if at all possible, I’d love to keep the donations to each charity as equal as possible.

Anything you are able to give will be an enormous step in helping to change lives.

Meg xx
