Story
In January 2025, our board will be bravely travelling to Lapland to take on an epic Arctic Challenge.
The team will find themselves up against gruelling tasks designed to test their endurance in one of the most extreme landscapes in the world. They’ll be surrounded by nothing but snow, ice, frozen lakes and rivers – in bone-chilling temperatures as low as -35°C, and facing just 5-6 hours of twilight per day!
The team will push themselves to the absolute limits across the long weekend, completing:
- A treacherous 35km dog sled race across frozen lakes and arctic forests
- A challenging 20km Nordic ski through the back country of Lapland via Karpasjarvi (taking around 4 hours)
- An epic auger drill challenge through the thick arctic ice to try their hand at ice fishing
- Orienteering around the tundra in near darkness
- Unpredictable, freezing cold weather… and more!
As a partner of the National Literacy Trust, we’re passionate about supporting their mission to make sure all children have the support they need to read, learn, be creative and play with confidence - because everyone deserves the chance to live a happy and healthy life, no matter where they were born or what their background is.
On average, children from the poorest backgrounds start school 19 months behind other children. They are:
- four times more likely to struggle to read as adults
- twice as likely to be unemployed aged 34
- three times more likely to have mental health problems as adults
Every penny raised for the Arctic Challenge will go towards helping NLT keep up the hard work they’re doing to rewrite peoples' stories.
Let’s rally behind Gavin, Debbie, Dean, Rosie and Aimee as they battle the elements – and give what you can to help them achieve their mission of raising £15,000 for NLT!
Thank you for supporting us and the work of the National Literacy Trust!
