Story

Thistle Piping is a local "bagpiper for hire" business in Aberdeen, founded in 1999 by Proprietor Pipe Major Julie Brinklow. Julie was planning a celebration for the business's 25th anniversary until some devastating news was delivered - a breast cancer diagnosis and an uncertain future.

Fast forward to 2024 and Julie is recovering well... in fact... it's me.. I'm here! I'm typing this and grateful to be doing it and talking about what I went through so that I can help others.

My "party" plans were quickly binned when I realised that I really wanted to do something meaningful to mark the occasion so, instead of a party, here I am - signing up for a rather apt "kilt walk" which covers 18 miles - by far the farthest I will ever have walked! In addition - I will support as many events as my calendar allows.

NOTE - This is the only fundraiser I will ask you to contribute to with a donation - I know that many families have their own struggles. So this is IT - the fundraiser! Please give what you can - every penny helps. I have chosen CLAN because not only are they are local but I also will be directly benefitting from their help and support this year with various appointments and treatments. Their support really means the world to me so it's the least I can do to give back something to help more people.

Through the rest of the year I will be supporting some other organised events which will have fundraising campaigns of their own. I will be offering my services as a Piper and raising general awareness - can't wait!

Thanks for reading

Julie
