Story
On Saturday 21st September, five friends (and may we add colleagues too) will set off to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours. We'll kick off in the early hours on Saturday, climbing Ben Nevis in Fort William, with a short(ish) drive of around 5 hours down to Scafell Pike for an early evening hike and then another short(ish) drive to round up the 24hr challenge by hitting our final peak, Snowdon, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
As for our WHY - all united in our love for a good challenge, but also our drive in raising awareness around a topic very close to our hearts.
Our chosen UK-based charity is CALM - also known as Campaign Against Living Miserably. A suicide prevention charity whose vision is that no one feels like suicide is their only option, but that right now in our society today, too many people are struggling to see a way forward.
CALM wish to help people end their misery, not their lives; by providing life-saving services, advice and information to help anyone by speaking to their helpline, open from 5pm to midnight every day. A charity that also campaigns to challenge the stereotypes and stigma that prevent people from talking about suicide and to make sure everyone has the knowledge and skills to unite against suicide.
For every £1 you donate:
- 83p is spent on supporting people who are struggling, including through our suicide prevention helpline, online tools and advice and campaigns.
- Everything else - 17p - is spent on keeping the charity running and fundraising to ensure we can help anyone who needs our support.
& finally, £12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.
Any donation, big or small, will help support the services CALM provide today and hopefully help drive awareness around such a taboo topic. It'll also help keep us moving upwards and downwards to complete this epic challenge.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any donations made.
All our love,
Lissy, Viki, Caoimhe, Meg & Augusta xxxx
