Story
Chloe's story:
15 months ago whilst away for the weekend with my family I suffered a Stroke at the age of 37.
The symptoms that I experienced gradually got worse over 2 hours. It started off as blurry vision and feeling faint, then I developed an excruciating headache, being violently sick, unable to use my arms and legs, speech loss and finally the left side of my face dropped. It was terrifying and I thought that was the end.
When a Stroke happens it brings your life to a sudden stop.
I want to raise awareness that a Stroke can happen to anyone at anytime.
I am proud to be a Stroke survivor. I was lucky to receive a Thrombectomy within a few hours which meant that I have no lasting brain damage.
Recovery was hard, after waking from the surgery, I had to learn to walk again and have been building my life back together piece by piece ever since with the support of my amazing family and friends.
Myself and 14 others will be taking part on behalf of The Three Horseshoes Pub, Comberton to help raise money for Stroke Association charity that work together with Stroke survivors like me to help get their lives back in motion.
The traumatisation of my Stroke will always haunt me and I want to help others that are experiencing this too.
I know now after lots of tests and investigations, the reason for my Stroke is a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) also known as a hole in the heart. I have had this since birth and never knew anything about it because it never caused any problems, but it can sometimes cause complications such as a Stroke. I have planned surgery in early October to close the hole and prevent any future Strokes.
After I have recovered, training for the half marathon will start and we as a team will work together towards the big day on 8 March.
With more donations and support, we can continue to help rebuild lives after Stroke.
