Tig’s Babas Memorial Match

Raising money for Wirral Hospice St John's
In memory of Tighearnán McLoughlin-Roche

We provide FREE hospice care for adult patients and support for loved ones. Some NHS funding is received but the majority of our income is donated by individuals, families, groups, companies and charitable trusts. Thank you for all of the kind support you are able to give us!

Story

On the 25th April, Birkenhead Park RFC will be hosting a unique rugby event in memory of Tighearnán McLoughlin-Roche. Sadly, in February 2026, Tighearnán passed away at the age of 29 following a battle with a rare and aggressive form of bowel cancer. A beloved father, husband, son, grandson, brother and friend to so many, Tighearnán’s passing has affected so many, and this event aims to bring together his loved ones to celebrate his life and raise funds for the Wirral Hospice St John’s, where Tighearnán was cared for.

The care, support and kindness shown by the team at the hospice made a lasting impact on Tighearnán during his time there and his family and friends, so much so that while planning the match with Tighearnán, he asked the organisers of the match to raise money to support them. Wirral Hospice St John's relies on donations and fundraising activities to help the charity keep caring for patients and their loved ones at a time of most need.

The match will be played between a “Tig’s Babas” side formed of close friends and teammates of Tighearnan’s from various clubs he played for over the years and a select side from Birkenhead Park RFC, Tighearnán’s last club. The match is an open invitation for all who wish to celebrate the life of Tighearnán and support a charity which made a real impact on him and his family. Food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the day, and a meal with refreshments and various fundraising events will follow the match.

Thank you for your kind support and we look forward to welcoming you on the day.
