Story

So this year started pretty much the same way as every new year, nice NYD walk in the brisk, fresh (freezing) cold sea air, blow away the cobwebs of the old year and start afresh.

My sister, who always keeps herself fit and eats healthy, did the same with some of her friends, only she had a few falls whilst she was on hers.

Quite concerned, the following day she went to her doctor as she thought she was having a stroke. Her doctor was also concerned so sent her to a&e…. Had a scan and received the shocking and devastating news that she wasn’t having a stroke, she actually had a brain tumour…..turns out it was the size of a golf ball and had all the characteristics of a glioblastoma but would know for definite once removed, however the prognosis is 12-24 months with treatment.

She had her operation on the 6th February to remove the tumour and we prayed it was a different type, sadly that wasn’t to be and on the 19th Feb she was told the tumour was, as suspected, a glioblastoma and she would need radiotherapy and chemotherapy but the prognosis remained the same.

Her treatment starts Mon 23rd March, 6 weeks of radio/chemo, month off then months of chemotherapy….. our main goal is supporting her, trying to keep her positive and her mind busy while hoping she’s not ill with the treatment…. But whilst we are supporting her in anyway we can, my family and I, my sister included, thought we would also do our bit for the charities that help and support those diagnosed with brain tumours and their families by doing our own 5k/10k or ‘whateverucanmanageK’ twilight walk fundraiser around Knaresborough, which we will be doing on 29th March, in support of The Brain Tumour Charity and we would really appreciate your support in helping us raise as much as possible, it would be great if we could reach or beat our target but whatever you can spare is greatly appreciated.
