Why I’m taking on the Manchester Marathon for Mind & The JHF?

I don’t often share this part of my story, but if it helps raise awareness and money for two causes, then its worth opening up.

Mental health is something that has had a significant impact, not just in the people around me, but in my own life. My parents suffered from poor mental health, and as a result, my childhood was far from easy. There were times when home wasn’t a safe or happy place, and I even spent a couple of years in the care system. It was tough, but what made the biggest difference in my life was the influence of role models outside my family, people who believed in me, encouraged me, and helped shape the person Ive become.

Thats why Im running the Manchester Marathon to raise money for Mind and The Jack Hazeldine Foundation (The JHF) two charities that provide the support and guidance that can truly change lives.

Why These Charities?

Mind is a charity that helps people struggling with mental health challenges. Too many people suffer in silence, unsure of where to turn. Sadly, I know how devastating that can be. A friend of mine took his own life in 2023, a painful reminder of how urgent and important it is to make sure that people get the help they need before its too late. Mind is there for those who are struggling, offering advice, support, and crisis services to ensure no one has to face their battles alone.

The JHF is a cause that’s closer to home. I was a trustee there for two years, and Ive seen firsthand the incredible impact they have. They work with young people, particularly those who have had difficult starts in life, providing mentoring, skill-building, and positive role models to help them reach their potential. I know from my own experience how vital that kind of support can be. Without the influence of people who inspired me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

How You Can Help

If my story resonates with you, or if you believe in the importance of mental health support and mentorship for young people, I’d love for you to donate. The money raised will go towards helping someone in need whether its giving them access to crucial mental health support through Mind or providing a vulnerable young person with a positive mentor through JHF.
