Raising money for Strathcarron Hospice and The Juniper Trust

Story

In November 2023 I trekked for some days in the Moroccan Sahara and then climbed Mount Toubkal at 4167 meters (13,671 feet).

This year I’ve decided to take my expedition participation to another level and will set off on the 14th May to trek, via Goyka Ri at 17,988 feet, to Everest Base Camp, 17,598 feet and then run/walk the Tenzing-Hillary Base Camp Marathon on the 29th May. The distances under normal circumstances wouldn't be a challenge but the challenge is that at the height of base camp the oxygen level is down to 75% of normal levels so altitude sickness can be an issue. I'm hoping that I can acclimatise well and these heights won't be too dizzy.

I’ve chosen to support Strathcarron Hospice again as our fantastic local independent hospice resource and also Nepal Evergreen, a wonderful Nepalese charity supporting sustainability, who plant rhododendrons and trees to support the hillside that I will trek through on my way to base camp.

A once in a lifetime experience.

My trip is fully self-funded so any donations will be going direct to the two charities. You can donate to one or both through this page in whatever proportion you prefer.

Thanks for any support you can give it is very much appreciated and will spur me on, whether or not I'm out of breath!

About Strathcarron Hospice

As an independent hospice, Strathcarron cares for over 1,400 people every year at a time when both they and their family need it most. The Hospice philosophy is about living until you die and the team ensure people have every opportunity to achieve their goals right up until the last moment. To do this, the charity needs to raise raise over £16,637 a day to keep its services running. Just £24 can pay for one hour of nursing care and really will make a difference.

About Juniper Trust

Juniper works around the world and in conjunction with Nepal Evergreen who are a charity who plan to plant 100,000 fruit trees, new rhododendrons and juniper bushes that provide shelter for the local deer and increase the biodiversity and sustainability of the region.
